Green scales hard as stone,

its yellow eyes darting ’round,

The drake enter’d in;

“From where have you come?”,

said the King, small below him;

tremb’ling there he stood.

“Once I came from the mountain,”

“my home is dust now -“

Here fire blaz’d within its eye –

“Man has done this!”

Teeth bared, the drake loom’d forth,

head rear’d like a snake,

and though many brave soldiers

tried to pierce its mighty hide,

The drake loom’d over their Lord,

offer’d unto him

a single, grisly grin,

and swallow’d the tremb’ling King whole.
