As the doorway closed and the new world surrounded me, all I could do was stand there and take it all in. I was the first human to ever be permanently housed inside a fully-functional VR world. There would be no taking off the helmet, no one to yank me back by a rope around my waist. No body to return to.
There was only this world, ever-generating; something inside me wondered if I’d made the right choice, but my feet willed me to move forward. It was all so… massive. Atop the hill I saw the home that had been created especially for me, and beyond that The Dragon weaved across the sky of the entire world in a set path.
The beast was made entirely of non-interact-able code that would serve as a kind of security system. It would ensure no one from Earth could tamper with my world with a virus, or by adding something that shouldn’t be there. The Dragon knew every parameter, every item, every path the rivers took – if something wasn’t right, it would repair it. That was its purpose.
I looked out over this new land from atop my hill…
What’s… my purpose then? I wondered.
